FPE is Winner of PHD's Segments Award for 2014!

FPE is the proud recipient of the PHD Segments award for 2014. This is important because it represents brand new market segments in the American manufacturing sector that have discovered the usefulness of PHD's products as a result of our h...elp and suggestions. As the economy improves, sure, sales may be up because manufacturing is up. FPE can't take credit for that. But we can boast (a little) about gaining new market share! So, please join us in a round of applause for those talented invidivuals on our team who thought out of the box enough to make new strides in new industries. It's the road less travelled because it takes substantially more creativity and work to engineer new ideas and break new ground. 2014 has been a great year! Here's to 2015!!!

Improved Design on Bag Lip for piGRIP® Suction Cup

Better gripping performance ensures higher productivity.

The latest from Piab:

Piab just introduced the next generation of piGRIP® bag lips, known as "BGI". These lips include an internal retainer piece as well as three additional diameter sizes. The bag lips are ideal for handling different types of bag materials, especially hard-to-handle thin bag material, such as plastic film. The six diameter sizes now at 25, 34, 41, 48, 63 & 80 mm provides a larger range of sizes for choosing the exact cup for the handling application.

The first generation of Piab's piGRIP® bag lips "BG" were developed to handle most types of bags and pouches much better than any other available suction cup on the market. The special lip design in combination with the rigid and strong piGRIP® bellows/body allows for bag handling speeds and accelerations never used before in automation equipment for bags/pouches. Beside regular plastic bags for dry food (e.g. chips), the new piGRIP® bag lips were designed to have an excellent grip on stand-up-pouches filled with liquid or dry/wet food/substances.

The range of diameter sizes now allows for very small and/or oblong narrow flexible packages (fast-food ketchup packs) to be handled by the smallest 25 mm size. The largest size, 80 mm, addresses the need for handling heavy bags or sacks such as animal feed sacks.

The new retainer piece prevents thin bags or films from being drawn into the cup, thus improving the grip performance as well as eliminating marks on the thin bag materials. The lip material and the retainer piece are made of FDA approved materials.

A new much stronger bonding solution between the lip and bellows will prevent lips from coming off during working cycles, even for extremely rough conditions (high speed and greasy environments). The new locking sleeve, in terms of a retainer, guarantees the lip will stay in position. Cost savings are possible from exchangeable lips, thanks to the new locking solution – you only need to replace the lip and not entire bag cup-fitting.

FPE South Celebrates 10 Years!

As you may have heard, Fluid Power Engineering is celebrating 50 years in business this year. But did you know that we have a second milestone also taking place? In March of 2004, our Sunset Hills, Missouri location opened its doors and will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Monday!

Fluid Power Engineering, Sunset Hills, MO office, grand opening in 2004.
Left to right: Darryl Onak, Henry Schuh, Lori Wolff and me
opening our FPE South office 10 years ago.

A little about FPE South:

The branch manager of the FPE Sunset Hills location is Henry Schuh. Henry is a Chicagoland native and worked at Fluid Power Engineering Elk Grove Village for many years before being asked to open and manage this office. Henry started in the warehouse, worked in our Value-added/Assembly department and eventually became Warehouse Manager. He then moved into Client Care where he quickly became on of FPE's top Inside Sales Representatives. Henry stayed in Client Care for a decade or so before moving into Outside Sales. When upper management finalized the plans to open the Sunset Hills office, Henry quickly came to mind as the perfect candidate, given his familiarity with the different positions in the company and his ability to train and assist workers in every role. Henry relocated to Missouri to accept the position and has been there on a daily basis for the entire time the office has been open.

Henry is not the only team member who has been at this location on a daily basis since its inception. Although anyone in FPE Client Care (in either location) can help with anything you need, we do have two Client Care reps located in Sunset Hills to maintain a very important local presence and also assist with any walk-ins we might have. Both of those individuals, Ken Riley and Jerry Gilbert, have been with us since day one. Ken and Jerry are both Missouri natives. They have each travelled north and spent time working at our Elk Grove Village location on more than one occasion as well.

In addition to our office team, we also have a very talented sales and support staff based in the greater St. Louis area. That group is headed up by Andy Button, FPE South Outside Sales Team Leader. It includes Eric Keebler, Greg Bannister and Automation Controls Expert Mike Pingleton.

For Fluid Power Engineering, the decision to open the Sunset Hills location has far exceeded our expectations. The office has performed even better than anyone had hoped! We hope your experience is the same.

HAPPY 10TH ANNIVERSARY - FPE SOUTH!!!
